Dear WI League Coaches,
Pitzone opened today for coaches which means the 2022 NICA season in Wisconsin is starting to ramp up! Over the past 3 weeks, I have be drinking from the proverbial fire hose as I gain a greater understanding of the complexity of our organization as the new League Director. I am grateful for all the support I have received from so many! I appreciate your continued patience as I learn the ropes and please keep reaching out with questions and information.

Pitzone is OPEN for COACHES!
Team Directors/Head Coaches, please start inviting your coaches to the season. The coaches email from NICA sent on Feb 19 has more complete details. Pitzone will open for athletes in April.

NICA Approved CPR/First Aid Courses
Looking to level-up? Need to recertify? Now is your chance! Courses will also be offered Fall 2022 but if you need training for this season, now is the time!
The $120 course involves online modules that take about 4 hours in addition to a 4.5 hours in-person skills session. Certification lasts 2 years.

On-the-Bike (OTB) Skills Clinics | Save-the-Dates
Multiple On-the-Bike Skills 101 and 201 will be held throughout the state in 2022. The full schedule with registration is still being hammered out but get these dates on your calendar.

2022 RACE DATES
Best problem to have…..so many athletes and families attending our race weekends! We have simply outgrown many of our venues so we must adjust. Many questions remain with this new format and answers are coming.
Each team will be assigned 5 races based on venue capacity, team preference (as indicated via a survey completed by the Team Directors/Head Coaches over the past two weeks) and making sure all teams race each other at least once.
▪ All teams will attend the season kick-off at Telemark and season closer at Trek Trails. ▪ All teams will attend 1 of 2 Nordic Mountain races. ▪ All teams will race 2 of 3 remaining races (Minooka, Englewood Farms or Lowes Creek).

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for Trek NICA Pathfinders Scholarships for our Fall Leagues! Trek has partnered with NICA to grow diversity in the sport of cycling and provide better access for people of color. This scholarship will provide up to 250 diverse and underrepresented youth with the gear and funds they need to ride and race in their local NICA League. If you know a student-athlete who would be a good fit, learn more and apply here! The Sparkle On Scholarship presented by Kate Courtney in partnership with SCOTT, Syncros, SRAM, and RockShox recognizes and supports student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to education and the cycling community during their time with NICA and will soon attend college. This year, Sparkle On will be awarded to six NICA seniors who show determination in pursuit of academic and athletic goals and a commitment to the cycling community and intend to continue to support and participate in cycling in college. The scholarships will include a monetary award of $6,500 each, mentorship in the form of quarterly calls with Kate, and participation in a Summit focused on skill building, on and off the bike. The application period will open on March 1 and close on March 21. More information can be found here.

The BIEA NICA Bicycle Technician Scholarship recognizes student-athletes who are seeking to pursue a rewarding professional career in the bicycle industry. Through this scholarship, two NICA seniors will receive $6,000 to attend the BIEA-accredited programs at either the Minneapolis Community Technical College or the Northwest Arkansas Community College. These programs both will prepare students for immediate employment in technical positions in the bicycle industry with the skills required to assemble and maintain all types and brands of new bicycles.
