Kathy and Don Are Retiring!
“One foot on a pedal and one foot on the ground. Wheels behind the line…”
The Wisconsin High School Cycling League Board of Advisors announces with a mix of heartfelt gratitude and sadness that Don Edberg and Kathy Mock, the dynamic duo that have made the Wisconsin Cycling League what it is today, are retiring at the end of this season. As we have all at one point stood in the woods with screaming costumed fans, smiling student-athletes and the warmth of a community that is truly second-to-none, it goes without saying that Don and Kathy will always be remembered for leading a movement in Wisconsin sports that will have a lasting positive effect on thousands of students for years to come.
Not everyone knows that Don founded the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling Association (WIN) in 2013. The first Wisconsin State Mountain Bike Championship consisted of 60 participants and 6 teams.
Kathy Mock joined forces with Don to help grow the league, and WIN became an affiliate NICA league and was renamed the Wisconsin High School Cycling League (WI League) in the Fall of 2014. Since that first year, the WI League has exploded to over 1,200 student athletes, 700 coaches and 70 teams.
Their dedication, enthusiasm and patience will always be remembered and we are humbled to carry forward the organization into this next chapter. Please find the time this weekend to thank Don and Kathy for their work. We will be celebrating them in various ways this weekend!
Job Opening Announcement
The Wisconsin High School Cycling League is continuing to move forward and will become the first full NICA Chapter League outside of the two founding leagues of NorCal and SoCal by the end of the calendar year. This transition gives us deeper integration with NICA National while maintaining a local Board of Directors that will offer guidance and insight to the incoming League Director. With NICA National HR Director, Kelly Curry, the Wisconsin NICA League has opened a call for resumes for the League Director position @ https://www.nationalmtb.org/job-opportunities/. We encourage all who are interested to read the job description and if compelled to apply, to please follow the instructions for submitting a resume and cover letter. All correspondence and communication for the position will go through NICA national, so please help Don and Kathy enjoy the last race cheering on student-athletes and being a part of the Wisconsin race community, not talking about the League Director position. Thanks!
